REVIEW: C Kkompany

Was it a movie? Or just a long spoof on everything imaginable?

Tusshar Kapoor strikes again. About time he himself gave up on acting and turned to something he does better we think. Not that he is bad. But it's just that the kind of roles and films he suits in just don't work. C Kkompany is yet another bright example.

Less of a movie and more of a spoof on everything under the sun — starting from television, k series, underworld, talk shows and even ordinary people — this movie loses track of the real story early enough. If it had a story to start with that is.

Watching the promos, we thought it would be a comic take on the underworld. But when we saw it, we realised that it wasn't so. It was definitely a take, but whether it was comic or painfully boring, the director knew it best.

Where's the story?

The movie starts off with the much publicised song starring Sanjay Dutt which was shot exactly the way Prem Chopra's first scene was done in Money Hai Toh Honey Hai. Well chances are that the audience won't see either of the films... so the reference is immaterial of course.

And then it moves on to depict the lives of these three men played by Tusshar Kapoor, Anupam Kher and Rajpal Yadav who are troubled and in need of money. We learn that Tusshar Kapoor has a girlfriend played by Raima Sen who is the sister of an underworld don played by Mithun Chakraborty.

Then we somehow lose interest because in spite of the director having tried to keep the characters real, there is no reality in them. The lovers are not lovers. The don is not a real don. The father (Anupam Kher) wants to get money out of his own son. Only probably Rajpal Yadav's character was somewhat close to normal.

Somewhere down the line, we also realise that there probably could have been a story in the film after all. And a social message too. But then the feeling is so fleeting that it evaporates as soon as we see the un-required and completely abrupt dance number by Celina Jaitley.

I can only see television actors.

As for the cast of the film, there are some real fine actors. Anupam Kher is a good actor for one. He'll probably play chicken and make us believe he can lay eggs. And the same goes for Rajpal Yadav. He's a lovable character in the film and he does full justice to it too.

Mithun plays the underworld don who is in love with k-soaps and Sakshi Tanwar aka Parvati of tellyland. He walks with a weird raised shoulder hunch and cries while watching TV. If you have not already realised, his character is probably the silliest of them all. But then again a three time National Award winner, Mithunda does even that well.

When he cries, it's silly but believable. When he walks in that weird way, he does it with total conviction. If not for anything else, this man deserves an award for just playing a *beep* *beep* *beep* character with so much effort.

Tusshar Kapoor has by now perfected the art of playing the dumb 'blah' guy thingy. And Raima Sen could have done without this film, even if it's a solo heroine film for her. There is no scope given to this poor girl to display her acting capabilities. So all that we can say is that she's REALLY pretty. And we mean it. That girl has the most expressive eyes ever.

There was Karan Johar too in the film and Mahesh Bhatt and Ekta Kapoor and Sakshi Tanwar and a hoard of other actors from k-soaps. And they make fun of all k-soaps and reality tv shows and everything that is TV. Ekta Kapoor is the worst of the lot though. We believe her now, she really can't act.

Comedy? No drama maybe...Suspense? Social film? Or just plain tragedy?

What genre will this movie fall in? Let's see...definitely not underworld. Comedy? Well, there are some double entendres here and there which have ceased to be funny a decade back. Drama? Barring the part where Mithun cries watching a K-soap, not much drama happens anyway. So what was this movie after all?

Wait, we know what this movie is. Just another Friday release which people might go for if they don't get any other movie show. A movie which will be forgotten like the rest of Tusshar Kapoor's films one day. A movie which we hope teaches Tusshar not to act only for the sake of acting, but delivering a good entertaining show to the audience.

VERDICT: Go for the movie if you do not get any other movie ticket. Or if you love Mithun Chakraborty. Actually don't, you might fall out of love with him.

RATING: 1.5/5
