Bigg Boss Season 2 takes off

Rakhi Sawant was only an item girl trying to be famous with Mika's kisses before Bigg BossBigg Boss. The season one of the show was definitely a milestone of sorts for Indian television. Now the question is…will season two be able to live up to it?

Many shows just work because they are Part II of some big show. The same happened with Bigg Boss Season 2. We were right in front of the TV screen dot on time to catch the first episode of the second season. We expected some real volatile participants, interesting in their own ways, who'll by the end of the 84 long weeks win a special place in our hearts. So who did we get?

The Bigg Boss 2 inmates

The first resident of the house to arrive was Ketaki Dave – the 'ara ra ra ra' aunt from Ekta's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. A homely m
otherly woman, Ketaki looked like she had potential to keep the audience entertained for the coming weeks but somehow lacked the 'zing' that the girls from the first season had.

Then there was Zulfi Syed. And Monica Bedi! This girl looked composed and had as last season's winner Rahul Roy put it 'the potential to be the winner considering the ups and downs she has faced in her life'.

Following them came Raja Chaudhuri – the troubled ex-husband of Shweta 'Prerna' Tiwari. Well, that seems to be his only claim to fame anyway! Rakhi Vijan aka Sweety of Hum Paanch, Rahul Mahajan and 'the Helen of Bhojpuri cinema' in the host Shilpa Shetty's words, Sambhavna Sheth entered the house one after the other.

Now who is this Sambhavna Sheth one might wonder…but let us tell you that she could very well be the Rakhi Sawant prototype in this season of the show. At least in her asset showing choli and x-rated dress, one could hope she would add some spice to the show.

The other inmates included the stand up comedian Ehsaan Qureshi, item girl (not Bhojpuri) Payal Rohtagi, singer Debojit Saha, Roadies' latest season winner Ashutosh Kaushik, another politician and Page 3 regular Sanjay Nirupam, an absolutely nobody Alina Wadia and the Big Brother bad girl Jade Goody.

And now for the wonderful and sexy 'yoga' performing host…

The Shilpa 'Big Brother' Shetty

An extremely 'droolable' and sexy host Shilpa Shetty wearing a midriff showing sari and a blouse with a neckline that would make any man smile is still in her warm up stages of show anchoring on the small screen. She is hot, no doubt, but that alone can hardly put a show together. Like last season's Arshad Warsi, she also has to muster up some energy to her act.

To give it to her though, she tried. Shilpa tried her best to be nice to all the participants, giving them tips on survival. After all, she does know better than them how to survive in a house with 13 odd people around.

The Bigg Boss House

A sprawling house with all amenities any normal man would want has been put together for the participants. The only oddity – the bathrooms are outside. The boys' room made in blue and girls' in pink made identification simpler as Ketaki Dave put it. There was also a smoking area which we somehow missed in the last house.

The inmates' equation

They are the people who will keep us entertained for the next 84 weeks. Or at least try to do so. They are thus, the most important part of the show. And though this time around, the contestants are not so well known as the last season, they all had potential to add spice to the show. After all, this is the first time we will be seeing a MP cook and clean!

Moreover, there's Jade Goody who wants to present a larger image of herself to the Indian audience. We have had 'gori mems' in Indian cinema till now. And this is the first time we'll have one on TV.

Sambhavna Sheth can very well become the Rakhi Sawant of last season. And Rakhi Vijan can keep her company as the Kashmera Shah. Debojit Saha looks like he can fit into Rupali Ganguly's shoes too well and Ehsaan Qureshi can keep all entertained like Ravi Kissen.

The coming 84 weeks can be good, bad or ugly. And right now, we can just wait and watch. OH WAIT! Just watch and watch.
